So you want to be notified when your 3dsMax render is done? There’s a couple of different ways to be notified when a render is done. Among other things, you could use the built in e-mail function if you have access to an SMTP server. For this example however, we’ll use a different trick.
Let’s setup your PC to give you a Skype call on your mobile when your render is done.
You will need Skype installed on your PC. It does’nt matter if it is running or not, as the script will sort it out. You will also need Skype on your mobile and logged in as a different user. We will run a simple one-liner post-render script in 3dsMax. Just download the zip file below and save and extract it where you can easily access it in 3ds Max. Use a standard text editor like Notepad or Notepadd++ or edit it in 3ds Max with the Script Editor. Edit the part “add_your_2nd_skype_username_here” and change that to the username you will use for Skype on your mobile. You need a 2nd username, because your pc “user” needs to phone your mobile “user”. Be aware that if you choose to edit the file with Notepad, it may change the file extension from .ms to .txt, just rename it back to .ms when done. This rename won’t be needed if you used Notepad++ or the built in 3ds Max Script Editor.
Add the “render_complete.ms” maxscript in 3dsMax into the RENDER Setup Dialogs under “script” > Post_Render
That’s it, have fun!
